Cryptocoryne scurrilis de Wit

home

The well known plants from South Sumatra, Bangka and Belitung  under the name C. scurrilis are off April 2007 named C. bangkaensis. Not much knowledge of C. scurrilis rests.
C. scurrilis
originates from the Riau province in Sumatra (Indonesia) and is not with certainty known from cultivation. There are a few collections from different localities in the Jambi province and from the Bintan island which may match the type material that de Wit used for his description (Meijer 4313). It would very nice to recollect the real C. scurrilis from 'a tributary' of the Indragiri river in the Riau province.

One of the two sheets Meijer 4313 of C. scurrilis in the Leiden herbarium (L). Only one plant (top left) has a spathe. No fruits are present. It is not known if there are any duplicates (Bogor?).

Known candidates for C. scurrilis;
there are more unidentified plants from the Jambi province in Sumatra and the picture may be much more complicated.

Figures 4 and 5 are omitted as they refer to C. bangkaensis. The famous figure 3 that triggered the investigations for the real C. scurrilis.
