These pages are on the cultivation and taxonomy of plants of the genus Cryptocoryne (Araceae)

Updates are made at irregular intervals

15 May 2013
Recollected shortly before WW2, this plant became a very popular aquarium plant under the name Cryptocoryne haerteliana. Only in the 50s it was recognized as C. affinis. Today there several forms known, different in size and colour.

9 November 2012
The 'real' Cryptocoryne scurrilis is finally identified. Kazuya Nakamoto was able to find the locality near the upstream of the Indragiri River in the Riau province of Sumatra where the plant originates. Note the pronounced, raised collar of the limb of the spathe. The relation with other nurii-like plants however is still complicated and need further research.
9 November 2012
Already known for a couple of years, this "Yellow Ring" was found by Nakamoto near Lake Cini in Pahang, Malaysia. As the plant is sterile (the pollen is defect), it is probably a hybrid, one parent C. cordata var. cordata, the other parent may be C. nurii.
10 September 2012
An update of the pages for Cryptocoryne annamica and Cryptocoryne vietnamensis is available.
Both are threatened in their habitat.
